Newly released records have raised fresh questions around North Carolina Senate hopeful Roy Cooper and his connections to a politically active nonprofit, according to a report by the New York Post.
The report says Cooper, former North Carolina governor, had ties to “Moving NC Forward,” a group that can engage in political advocacy without disclosing donors. The organization has reportedly hosted fundraisers where Cooper or his staff were present and has been linked to several individuals later appointed to state positions during his governorship.
Records also show some affiliates and family members of the group’s board received government appointments, while others donated to Cooper’s campaign. The Post says critics are now questioning the influence of so-called “dark money” groups in state politics.
Neither Cooper’s campaign nor the group responded to requests for comment, the report added.
