Fighting between the United States and Iran has intensified, with attacks expanding across the Persian Gulf and rattling global oil markets.
US Central Command carried out a sixth consecutive night of strikes on Iranian coastal, military and maritime targets, according to reports Friday. Iranian media said the latest wave hit five bridges and killed seven people, while a US missile also struck a maritime control tower in Chabahar.
According to Bloomberg The escalation has severely disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, with confirmed crude transit through the waterway falling sharply as tankers avoid the route. Kuwait reported that Iran struck a power and water desalination plant, and a tanker off Oman’s coast was hit by a projectile, causing minor damage.
Brent crude climbed above $88 a barrel Friday as investors weighed the risk of prolonged instability, with analysts warning that continued hostilities could further threaten global energy supplies.
