Passenger refuses to sit beside woman, allegedly cites Sharia law before assaulting flight attendant

A 29-year-old passenger has been arrested in Germany after allegedly refusing to sit next to a woman on a flight from Turkey to Düsseldorf, citing Sharia law.

The incident occurred on June 1 aboard a flight from Samsun to Düsseldorf. Police said the passenger, a German national of Turkish descent, refused his assigned seat next to a woman, prompting a female flight attendant to intervene. The confrontation escalated when he allegedly slapped her across the face.

Federal officers boarded the aircraft after it landed and detained the suspect. He confessed to the assault during questioning but also insulted officers in Turkish, adding a further charge to the case, which has since been handed to Düsseldorf Police for investigation.

According to the Daily Mail, the matter remains under investigation. Turkish Airlines said the flight was not operated by the carrier, contrary to earlier reports.
