President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia will visit China next week to hold talks with Xi Jinping regarding global issues, trade, and energy cooperation following a recent visit by President Trump.
President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia will travel to China on Tuesday for a two-day summit with leader Xi Jinping, according to The New York Times.
The Kremlin announced Saturday that the visit follows a trip by President Trump to Beijing. Spokesman Dmitri S. Peskov stated the meeting offers Moscow “a good opportunity to share opinions on the contacts that the Chinese had with the Americans.”
Talks will focus on regional problems, bilateral trade, and a proposed Siberian gas pipeline. Despite Russia’s lopsided economic reliance on Beijing, its role as an energy supplier remains critical amid global strains.
Regarding energy agreements, Mr. Putin remarked, “If we are able to finalize them during the visit, I would be very pleased.” He added that Moscow hopes for “no illegitimate sanctions or escalating economic tensions” between Washington and Beijing.
