CONVOY CARRYING RUSSIAN FIGHTERS, MALIAN TROOPS AMBUSHED IN NORTHERN MALI
A convoy carrying Malian soldiers and Russia’s Africa Corps fighters came under attack in northern Mali on Thursday, according to three security sources and a spokesperson for an armed group. One source said the convoy was transporting over 200 Russian fighters and 100 Malian soldiers when ambushed, following a similar assault on another military convoy earlier this week.
The al-Qaeda-linked JNIM and the Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front have intensified attacks on army positions in recent days, escalating insecurity across northern Mali. The convoy was reportedly heading north to reinforce military positions in the region.
According to Reuters, there was no immediate official statement on casualties or the full extent of the damage, as details of the attack were still emerging.
