The family of murdered Nashville student Jillian Ludwig expressed outrage after her killer Shaquille Taylor received a 38-year sentence, with her mother insisting the punishment should have been life imprisonment.
The family of Jillian Ludwig, an 18-year-old Belmont University freshman shot dead while jogging near campus in 2023, has expressed outrage after her killer received a 38-year prison sentence instead of life imprisonment.
Shaquille Taylor, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after originally being indicted on first-degree murder charges. He fired the stray bullet that struck Ludwig in the head while targeting a rival gang.
“It’s not enough … I still think it should have been life,” said her mother, Jessica Ludwig. “He took everything from us.”
Her father added: “He needs to be in jail forever. For us, today, 38 years will have to do.”
Taylor had previously been released without prosecution despite prosecutors warning he was dangerous, prompting Tennessee lawmakers to close the legal loophole that allowed his release.
