FARAGE QUITS PARLIAMENT AMID DONATIONS ROW, SEEKS RE-ELECTION

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has resigned as MP for Clacton-on-Sea, forcing a by-election in which he intends to run again, CNN reports. He announced the decision on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, amid mounting scrutiny over financial donations, including an ongoing parliamentary standards probe that will be suspended until after the election.

Farage denied any wrongdoing, saying he had “obeyed” parliamentary rules on “good legal advice.” The move follows a Sunday Times report alleging he failed to disclose gifts from businessman George Cottrell, who was previously indicted in the US for money laundering and fraud. It also follows earlier reports of a £5 million gift from billionaire Christopher Harborne, which Farage described as “the equivalent of a lottery win.”
