A major corruption investigation has triggered FBI and NYPD raids across New York, targeting current and former senior police officials over alleged misconduct involving promotions and assignments.
New York’s police department is under serious scrutiny. FBI agents and NYPD investigators carried out searches across the city on Wednesday as part of a major corruption probe, ABC News reports.
The investigation centres on alleged misconduct by current and former senior NYPD officials, particularly around promotions and key assignments. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed the searches, saying Internal Affairs is working with the FBI and federal prosecutors.
Sources say Manhattan South Chief Jimmy McCarthy has been placed on modified duty, while ex-spokesman Tarik Sheppard is also under scrutiny. Investigators were also spotted outside former Chief Jeffrey Maddrey’s Brooklyn home. No charges have been announced yet.
