Fetterman says no to party switch: ‘I’d be a terrible Republican’

Senator John Fetterman dismissed rumours of leaving the Democratic Party despite criticizing its direction.

Senator John Fetterman has rejected speculation about switching to the Republican Party, insisting he remains a Democrat despite disagreements with party leaders. Writing in an op-ed, Fetterman argued that today’s Democratic Party has shifted away from positions once widely shared within the party, including support for Israel, border security and avoiding government shutdowns.“My values have not changed,” he wrote, while defending his votes against shutdown efforts and his strong backing of Israel.

Fetterman also revealed he has faced protests and criticism for “voting my conscience.” Despite frustration with parts of the Democratic base, he stressed that he remains “strongly pro-choice, pro-weed, pro-LGBT, pro SNAP [and] pro-labor.” The Pennsylvania lawmaker pledged to continue working across party lines for his state while dismissing Republican hopes of a party switch, declaring, “I’d be a terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats.”
