Gunmen storm Ebola hospital in DR Congo, demand bodies of relatives

Chaos erupted in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo after armed men stormed a hospital treating Ebola patients, demanding the release of bodies of their relatives. According to Peoples Gazette, citing international reports, the attackers forced their way into the facility as medical staff scrambled to evacuate patients amid rising tension and fear in the area.

The incident is the latest in a wave of violence targeting Ebola treatment centres in the region, where distrust, grief, and anger over burial rules continue to fuel clashes. Health workers say families often reject safe burial protocols, insisting on traditional rites, even as officials warn that Ebola victims remain highly infectious after death.

Authorities and aid agencies are struggling to contain both the outbreak and growing insecurity, with repeated attacks disrupting treatment efforts and forcing evacuations at critical moments in the response.
