Health authorities in northern Italy have issued an Ebola alert after two suspected cases were detected in the Lombardy region, following their return from Uganda. According to Euronews, the individuals a man and a woman who had been working as humanitarian aid workers developed symptoms shortly after arriving back in the province of Como. They are currently under medical observation, with tests underway to confirm whether it is Ebola or another infection.
Officials have moved quickly to activate emergency surveillance protocols, though they stress that the overall risk to the public remains very low. The cases are being treated at specialist infectious disease facilities as contact tracing begins.
The alert comes amid a wider Ebola outbreak in Central Africa, which has already triggered global concern and cross-border monitoring by health agencies.
