Iran alleges US blocked Iranian support staff visas

A fresh row has erupted ahead of the World Cup, with Iran accusing the United States of denying visas to a large portion of its national team’s support staff.

According to ABC News, the Iranian Embassy in Turkey said managerial staff, technical advisers and other key personnel were refused entry permits just days before the tournament. The embassy argued the move violates FIFA regulations and undermines the team’s ability to compete without added pressure.

The accusation came after US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack praised embassy officials for processing visas for Iranian players and staff.

Iran’s team is due to arrive in Tijuana, Mexico, on Sunday before opening its World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, as reported by ABC News.
