Iranian MP puts $3m bounty on President Donald Trump’s head

An Iranian legislator has sparked international condemnation after offering a $3 million bounty for the assassination of U.S. President Donald Trump to avenge the death of General Qassem Soleimani.

Ahmad Hamzeh, a member of the Iranian parliament representing a district near the hometown of the late General Qassem Soleimani, announced on Tuesday a US$3 million reward to “anyone who kills” U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking before the 290-seat Majlis, Hamzeh framed the bounty as a mandate from the people of Kerman following the American drone strike that killed Soleimani in Iraq earlier this month.

In addition to the assassination threat, the legislator called for the production of “long-range missiles capable of carrying unconventional warheads,” asserting that “if we had nuclear weapons today we would be protected from threats.” U.S. disarmament ambassador Robert Wood dismissed the provocations as “ridiculous,” stating they further demonstrate the “terrorist underpinnings” of the Iranian establishment as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.
