MAMDANI WEIGHS NETANYAHU ARREST AHEAD OF UN VISIT
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani says his administration is actively examining whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be arrested should he visit the city for the United Nations General Assembly in September.
According to The Independent, Mamdani said he is actively consulting with the city’s Law Department on possible legal avenues, citing the International Criminal Court’s outstanding arrest warrant against Netanyahu.
Netanyahu has publicly dismissed the remarks, saying he would still travel to New York despite the threat. Israeli officials, including UN Ambassador Danny Danon, have also swiftly criticized Mamdani’s comments, while legal experts have questioned whether a New York City mayor actually has the authority to enforce an ICC warrant against a visiting foreign head of state.
