Merz: Iran is humiliating the United States amid ongoing tensions

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz publicly declared that the United States has no clear exit strategy on Iran, warning that Tehran is outmanoeuvring Washington diplomatically while an entire Iranian nation is being humiliated by its own Revolutionary Guards.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz delivered a stinging assessment of American diplomacy on Monday, telling students that Washington lacked a coherent approach to the Iran crisis. “I cannot see what strategic exit the Americans are now opting for, especially as the Iranians are obviously negotiating very skillfully — or, rather, very skillfully not negotiating and letting the Americans travel to Islamabad only to leave again without any results,” he said.

Merz further warned that Europe stood ready to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but only after hostilities ceased. “The Iranians are clearly stronger than one thought and the Americans clearly don’t seem to have a convincing negotiating strategy,” he said, adding that “an entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian state leadership, particularly through these so-called Revolutionary Guards,” while expressing little optimism about a near-term resolution.
