Microsoft is cutting about 4,800 jobs, roughly 2.1% of its global workforce, with its Xbox division bearing the brunt as it grapples with a “severe hardware crisis” and slowing growth.
MICROSOFT’S BIG CUTS
Microsoft is eliminating about 4,800 jobs, or 2.1% of its global workforce, with Xbox among the hardest hit, CNN reports.
Chief people officer Amy Coleman said the changes reflect a fast-shifting tech landscape, though jobs aren’t being replaced by AI.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said about 3,200 roles will be cut through fiscal 2027, with 1,600 eliminated immediately, citing a “severe hardware crisis” and underperforming growth from Game Pass and studio acquisitions.
Four studios — including Compulsion Games and Double Fine — will become independent or shift management as part of the shake-up.
