A Louisiana mother is recovering from a facial gunshot wound while experiencing fluctuating memory loss regarding the deaths of her three children following a mass shooting in Shreveport that left eight children dead and the gunman deceased.
Authorities and family members are grappling with the aftermath of a weekend rampage in Shreveport, Louisiana, where 31-year-old Shamar Elkins fatally shot eight children and injured two women before dying following a carjacking. Christina Snow, who lost her three children in the attack, remains hospitalized with a bullet lodged in her face; her cousin, Jamarckus Snow, reports she suffers from intermittent memory loss, stating, “One day, she’ll remember they’re dead… the next day, she’s thinking her kids is still there.”
The deceased children, aged 3 to 11, were discovered across multiple locations, with many found shot in the head while appearing to have been asleep. While Elkins a former National Guardsman with a prior firearm conviction had recently sought mental health treatment, relatives expressed shock at the violence, as Jamarckus Snow noted, “I can’t say that he didn’t love his kids because he did. It was unexpected.” Federal prosecutors have since arrested a man in connection with the firearm used in the massacre as the investigation into a motive continues.
