New PM Burnham falls short of what Britain needs — Badenoch

UK opposition leader Kemi Badenoch has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming prime minister but said the country needs a decisive leader, not “a people pleaser.”

Badenoch: Burnham Not the Leader Britain Needs

UK Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Britain’s new prime minister but said, while he is “a nice man,” Britain needs someone capable of tough decisions rather than “a people pleaser.” She made the remarks in a statement on X on Monday.

According to Punch, Badenoch said her role was to hold Burnham “to account, not to be his cheer leader,” welcoming reports he plans to approve licences for the Jackdaw and Rosebank gas fields, but urging him to end the wider ban on new licences.

She also criticised Burnham for taking office without a clear governing agenda, noting there will be no PMQs until September.
