Police detain 14-year-old for stealing bus third time in six months

Norwegian police have detained a 14-year-old boy accused of stealing and driving a bus more than 300 kilometres from Oslo, marking the third such incident involving the teen in six months.

A 14-year-old boy in Norway has been accused of stealing and driving a bus for the third time in six months, police said.

Authorities stopped the bus on a highway near Kristiansand after reports of an unusually young driver behind the wheel. The vehicle had allegedly been stolen in Oslo and driven more than 300 kilometres without passengers onboard.

“The driver of the bus is a minor boy who was taken into care by the police and child welfare services,” police official Ronny Aateigen Andersen told NRK.

Police said the teenager was linked to two previous bus thefts, including one involving a cross-border drive into Sweden earlier this year.

Officials described the latest incident as “very serious,” warning about the risks posed by an underage driver operating a bus in regular traffic.
