A new YouGov poll shows Vice President JD Vance as the clear Republican front-runner for 2028 with 63% support among GOP voters, followed by Marco Rubio at 42% and Ron DeSantis at 35%, while Donald Trump Jr. leads among younger voters but struggles with older demographics.
Vice President JD Vance is already the man to beat in 2028. A new YouGov poll of 2,189 Republican and Republican-leaning independents shows 63% would consider voting for him in the presidential primary. That is a commanding lead.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio sits at 42%, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 35%. Donald Trump Jr. pulls 31%, while Ted Cruz registers 26%.
Vance’s strength lies with older voters. He draws 76% support from those aged 65 and over and 67% from voters 45 to 64. Among young voters (18-29), his support drops to 44% — but that is still higher than most. The only candidate who beats him in that age group is Donald Trump Jr., at 49%. Trump Jr. fades sharply with age, falling to just 23% among those 65 and older.
Further down the list: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (15%), Mike Pence (14%), Vivek Ramaswamy (13%), Tim Scott (10%), and Tulsi Gabbard (8%). The race is early, but Vance has the early lead.
