Vice President JD Vance has revealed that the Justice Department is investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar for possible immigration fraud, reigniting long-standing allegations that have followed the Minnesota Democrat since her first congressional campaign in 2018.
Vance made the disclosure at a White House press briefing on Tuesday, saying, “I don’t want to prejudge an investigation. It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the laws.”
He added, “We’re going to investigate it. We’re going to take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime, and that’s something the Department of Justice is looking at right now.”
Omar’s chief of staff, Connor McNutt, dismissed the claim as “a ridiculous lie.” Omar has faced repeated questions over her immigration status, family finances and alleged ties to a COVID-era fraud scheme in Minnesota.
