Exiled Russian artist Semyon Skrepetsky, known for savage anti-Putin caricatures, was shot dead near his home in Biała Podlaska, Poland, with two Belarusian nationals arrested nearby.
A Russian artist known for mocking Vladimir Putin has been shot dead on a quiet street in Poland. Semyon Skrepetsky, 44, was killed at close range near his home in Biała Podlaska, close to the Belarusian border, prosecutors confirmed Tuesday, according to Sky News.
Skrepetsky fled Russia in 2021 over fears of persecution, building a reputation for biting caricatures of Putin, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and other top officials including one chilling image showing Putin cradled in Stalin’s arms. Days before his death, he’d joined a protest outside Russia’s embassy in Berlin.
Two Belarusian men, 37 and 33, were arrested near the Belarusian consulate shortly after. Polish broadcasters reported the killing bore the hallmarks of an execution, per Notes From Poland.
