Trump unveils declassified files on 2020 election, claims foreign meddling

President Trump released declassified documents claiming election infrastructure vulnerabilities and foreign interference, but fact-checkers dispute several of his central claims.

Trump Releases Election Security Documents, Renews Fraud Claims

President Donald Trump used a primetime address Thursday night to unveil dozens of declassified, heavily redacted documents, according to WBAL-TV’s Washington News Bureau. He said the files expose vulnerabilities in U.S. election systems and foreign meddling in the 2020 election.

Trump alleged China accessed 220 million U.S. voter files in the largest election data breach in history. PolitiFact, however, found the claim conflicts with earlier intelligence assessments noting such data is often already public or purchasable.

He also claimed 28,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in some states, ordering DHS to alert states and remove ineligible voters.

Trump renewed his push for the Save America Act, requiring proof of citizenship and voter ID, though the bill lacks the 60 Senate votes needed to pass.
