US Air Force B-52 bomber crashes shortly after takeoff

States Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California on Monday, with emergency crews responding to an ongoing situation and no casualties yet confirmed.

It’s been a dark day in American skies. A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California, according to Tribune Online, citing Al Jazeera.

Emergency crews immediately responded to the scene, with base authorities posting on X that “the situation is ongoing.” At the time of reporting, officials had not confirmed any casualties and the cause of the crash remained unclear.

The B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons, with a payload capacity of up to 70,000 pounds and each aircraft is estimated to be worth around $110 million.

Grim timing too. The crash came less than 24 hours after another deadly aviation incident in Missouri, where 12 people were killed when a skydiving plane went down near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, south of Kansas City. Two crashes in one day America’s aviation authorities will have some serious questions to answer.
