US blockade of Hormuz successful despite media reports suggesting otherwise, maritime expert says

Maritime experts and U.S. officials report that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has successfully “kettled” millions of barrels of Iranian oil, effectively disrupting the regime’s global smuggling networks.

Despite conflicting media reports, maritime data analysts confirm that the U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, part of **Operation Epic Fury**, has been largely successful in stifling Iran’s oil export capabilities. Michelle Bockmann, an analyst from Windward, explained that seven Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) have been effectively “kettled”—trapped within Iranian territorial waters after being intercepted by U.S. forces. These vessels alone represent a potential capacity of 14 million barrels of oil, now rendered unusable for international trade.

The blockade is reportedly a “worldwide” effort that extends far beyond the immediate Arabian Sea. U.S. officials recently highlighted the boarding of the sanctioned vessel *Tiffany* and a Botswana-flagged tanker in the Bay of Bengal as evidence that the Navy is tracking the wider network of “dark activity.” This includes Iranian vessels turning off their automatic identification systems (AIS) and attempting complex ship-to-ship transfers to reach markets in China.According to CENTCOM, at least 29 vessels have been successfully turned around or detained since the enforcement began.

President Donald Trump asserted on Thursday that the U.S. maintains “total control” over the strategic waterway, describing it as “sealed up tight” until a diplomatic deal is reached. While some reports from cargo trackers suggest dozens of tankers have bypassed the primary line, experts note that many of these ships remain under active surveillance and face detention weeks later in the Pacific or Indian Oceans. The stranded VLCCs now serve as “floating storage,” underscoring the massive logistical and economic pressure currently facing the Iranian regime.
