The DHS Inspector General has opened wide-ranging investigations into ICE and CBP enforcement tactics as congressional tension mounts over the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general disclosed multiple investigations Thursday into the agency’s nationwide immigration crackdown. The probes target ICE’s rapid hiring surge, expedited removals, and use-of-force incidents that have reportedly turned violent in several states. Watchdogs are also scrutinizing DHS processes for verifying the citizenship of detainees following reports of U.S. citizens being wrongfully arrested.
“DHS’s job is to secure the homeland, and we do so in line with federal law and the Constitution,” stated spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, who dismissed the investigations as standard oversight. However, Senate Democrats are currently blocking DHS funding, demanding that federal agents wear body cameras and IDs. The administration remains firm, refusing to prohibit agents from wearing masks during enforcement operations.
