With nowhere else to turn, a Venezuelan family surrenders to ICE for voluntary return home

A Venezuelan mother living in Colorado made the difficult decision to voluntarily enter ICE custody with her three sons and return home after months of financial hardship following her husband’s detention, according to The Denver Post.

Cecilia, who was seven months pregnant, said the family’s situation became unbearable after losing their main source of income. Unable to afford rent and struggling to feed her children, she opted for a self-deportation programme that offered transportation and financial assistance.

After turning herself in at an ICE office in Centennial, Colorado, Cecilia and her children were processed and flown back to Venezuela. Speaking after arriving home, she said she had no regrets.

“I went to this country. It didn’t work out,” she told The Denver Post.
