Trump’s plan to use his library as a hotel sparks lawsuit

Miami residents have sued Donald Trump and Florida officials, alleging an unconstitutional land transfer for a library project that may double as a hotel.

A group of Miami residents has filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, Florida officials and Miami Dade College trustees over plans to build his presidential library on donated public land.
The plaintiffs argue the transfer of a nearly three-acre parcel, valued above $67 million, violates the Constitution’s emoluments clause. “But President Trump paid nothing for it,” the litigants wrote.

They also cited Trump’s remarks suggesting the facility could function as a hotel. “It’s most likely going to be a hotel with a beautiful building underneath,” Trump said.

The land “is no longer available to serve MDC’s student community,” the lawsuit states, urging the court to nullify the deal.
The White House defended the project, saying it would be “one of the most magnificent buildings in the world.”
The suit was filed in a federal court in Florida.
