The Ghana Immigration Service has detained 93 Nigerian nationals and rescued 73 torture victims during a major raid on a sophisticated cybercrime syndicate in Accra.
In an intelligence-led raid on a suspected cybercrime network at Devtraco Estate in Accra, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 91 Nigerian men and two women for alleged internet fraud and immigration violations. The operation was highlighted by the rescue of 73 victims who had reportedly “endured severe abuse and torture at the hands of the suspects” before being repatriated to Nigeria, with authorities seizing a sophisticated cache of equipment including 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones, counterfeit currency, and fake gold bars.
In a statement issued Monday, GIS spokesperson Maud Anima Quainoo noted that many of the suspects had entered the country through “unauthorised border crossings” or overstayed their legal residency, marking the latest in a series of crackdowns following similar mass arrests in December and January. The GIS emphasized that “investigations are continuing at its headquarters to determine the full scale of the criminal network,” while urging all foreign nationals to strictly adhere to the country’s laws amid rising concerns over cross-border criminal exploitation within the ECOWAS region.
