Humanoid robot ‘Gabi’ has taken a vow to become the first robot monk at a celebration in South Korea.

The robot was given the dharma name ‘Gabi’ as it attended a ceremony dressed in traditional Buddhist robes and a kasaya, joining monks in prayer with its palms pressed together in the courtyard of Daeungjeon Hall at Jogyesa Temple.

The “sugye” ceremony is a Buddhist ritual in which participants pledge devotion to Buddha.
