Iran says it struck US military positions in retaliation for American strikes on its sites near the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to unravel a peace deal signed just a week earlier.
A week-old peace deal between Iran and the US is already wobbling — and this weekend’s strikes show just how fragile it is.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say they hit US military positions in the Middle East on Saturday, retaliating after American forces struck Iranian missile, drone and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, CNN reports. Washington hasn’t confirmed the strikes, but the exchange marks the first since both nations signed a memorandum of understanding last week aimed at restoring calm to the vital waterway.
Bahrain reported Iranian drone attacks on its territory early Saturday, calling them a sovereignty violation, while a tanker was also damaged in the strait. Maritime authorities have since raised the threat level to “substantial.”
No casualties have been reported, but fears are growing that the fragile truce could collapse entirely.
