The Memphis Grizzlies and the NBA community are mourning the sudden passing of 29-year-old forward Brandon Clarke, whose death is currently being investigated by law enforcement as a potential drug overdose.
The Memphis Grizzlies announced Tuesday that veteran forward Brandon Clarke has passed away at age 29. According to the Daily Caller, while the team did not disclose a cause of death, LAPD sources reported Clarke was found Monday in a residence where drug paraphernalia was present; authorities are investigating the incident as a potential overdose.
Clarke, a 2019 first-round pick, was a cornerstone of the Grizzlies’ roster. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,” the team stated. “Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the great Memphis community will not be forgotten.” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also paid tribute, noting Clarke played with “enormous passion and grit.” Represented by Priority Sports, the agency remembered him as the “gentlest soul.” No funeral arrangements have been announced.
