Tusk warns NATO unity is at risk after the US announced troop withdrawals from Germany.
Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has warned that NATO is “disintegrating” following a United States decision to withdraw about 5,000 troops from Germany. In a social media post, Tusk said, “The greatest threat to the transatlantic community are not its external enemies, but the ongoing disintegration of our alliance.”
The move comes amid tensions involving Donald Trump, who defended the withdrawal and criticised Germany’s leadership. A Pentagon official described recent German remarks as “inappropriate and unhelpful,” while Germany’s defence minister urged Europe to strengthen its own security responsibilities.
With Germany hosting a major US military presence, uncertainty remains over the redeployment of forces, as NATO works to assess the broader implications of the decision.
