President Donald Trump stated Saturday that he “expects to hear very soon” from Tehran regarding Washington’s latest peace proposal. In a phone interview with French broadcaster LCI, Trump maintained an optimistic tone regarding the ongoing regional standoff, asserting that the Iranians “still very much want to make a deal.”
The diplomatic push follows months of heightened conflict after U.S. and Israeli strikes on February 28 triggered Iranian retaliation and the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. While an April 8 ceasefire mediated by Pakistan halted active hostilities, a permanent accord remains elusive. Trump also addressed the “Victory Day” truce between Russia and Ukraine, noting “it would be nice to see the ceasefire extended” and claiming he “made the deal” personally with Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy.
