US EXTENDS WORK PERMITS FOR TPS IMMIGRANTS HOURS BEFORE DEADLINE
The United States government has extended work permits for hundreds of thousands of immigrants under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), granting temporary relief just hours before the permits were set to expire.
According to Washington Post, the extension covers beneficiaries from Haiti, Syria, Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan and Myanmar, allowing them to keep working legally in the country for a limited period.
The move follows a recent US Supreme Court ruling that cleared the way for the Trump administration to end TPS protections for some nationalities, a decision that had sparked concern among immigrant advocates and employers over potential workforce disruptions.
Haitians received an extension until July 24, while the other affected nationalities were granted an additional week to remain covered under the programme.
