Ukraine, Russia trade accusations of violating US-backed ceasefire

A three-day U.S.-mediated ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine is nearing collapse as both nations report hundreds of violations and fatal drone strikes.

A U.S.-mediated ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine is under serious strain on its second day, according to the JERUSALEM POST. Both nations have traded accusations of violating the three-day pause announced by President Donald Trump. Ukrainian officials reported three deaths from Russian drone strikes and over 200 battlefield clashes since Saturday.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that while large-scale aerial attacks subsided, “the Russian army is not observing any silence on the front.” Conversely, Moscow’s Defense Ministry claimed it downed 57 Ukrainian drones and “responded in kind” on the battlefield.

Amid the violence, diplomatic efforts continue as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner prepare to visit Moscow. Zelensky noted he still expects the U.S. to guarantee a planned 1,000-person prisoner swap, even as the broader peace process remains stalled over territorial demands.
