Meta is replacing WhatsApp chief Will Cathcart with Indian fintech entrepreneur Kunal Shah, alongside a $900 million investment in Shah’s company, CRED.
Big shake-up at WhatsApp. Will Cathcart, who’s run the app for nearly seven years, is stepping down — and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already picked his replacement: Kunal Shah, founder of Indian fintech company CRED.
Zuckerberg called Cathcart “one of Meta’s most important and effective leaders,” The Sun Nigeria crediting him with growing WhatsApp past 3 billion users while keeping privacy front and center. Cathcart is staying at Meta, taking on a new role building products from scratch.
As for Shah, Meta is investing $900 million into CRED as part of the deal, valuing the startup at $4.5 billion. Zuckerberg says Shah’s “builder mentality” makes him the right fit to lead WhatsApp’s next chapter.
