Australian fast-food chain Guzman y Gomez is facing a lawsuit in the United States after former employees alleged they were not given advance notice before the company shut all six of its Chicago-area restaurants.
According to Reuters, the case was filed in an Illinois court by a group of workers who claim they learned about the closures through an internal messaging platform late on Thursday, shortly before their jobs were terminated.
The lawsuit estimates that about 500 employees were affected and seeks 60 days of unpaid wages and benefits under federal and state worker-notification laws.
Guzman y Gomez, which recently announced its exit from the U.S. market due to weak sales, said it is aware of the legal action and believes it met all legal obligations to employees.
