Ex-CIA officer accused of hiding $40m in gold bars in his home

A former CIA senior officer is facing criminal charges after allegedly stashing about 300 gold bars worth over $40 million in his home, according to NBC News.

Investigators say David Rush, a longtime intelligence official with top-secret clearance, also lied about his academic and professional background for nearly two decades, falsely claiming elite degrees and military aviation experience.

Court documents allege he repeatedly requested large sums of government funds for “work-related expenses,” including foreign currency and gold, but diverted much of it for personal gain.

Agents reportedly recovered the gold bars, $2 million in cash, and luxury watches during raids.

A CIA spokesperson said the FBI is leading the investigation after internal alerts flagged possible misconduct, adding officials are “committed to following the facts.”
