ABC raises alarm over Trump Administration broadcast license threat

ABC is digging in for a fight with the Federal Communications Commission after being ordered to undergo an unusually early review of the broadcast licenses for its owned TV stations. According to The New York Times, the network’s parent company, Disney, filed the required applications but did so “under protest,” arguing that the move is unconstitutional and threatens free speech.

The dispute centers on FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who says the review is tied to concerns about discrimination and regulatory compliance. Disney, however, insists the action is politically motivated and designed to pressure news and entertainment outlets whose content may be critical of President Donald Trump.

The clash marks a dramatic escalation in tensions between the FCC and major broadcasters, with ABC warning that the review could have a chilling effect on independent journalism and free expression.
