Murder Probe Launched After Ann Widdecombe Found Dead
Devon and Cornwall Police say they were called to Ann Widdecombe’s rural Devon home around 11:40 a.m. BST on July 9, where the 78-year-old former Conservative minister and Reform UK spokeswoman was found with serious injuries, Tribune online reports. Detectives have opened a murder inquiry and are searching for a white male believed connected to the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson said the investigation was “moving at a significant pace,” urging the public to share any relevant CCTV or doorbell footage while avoiding speculation. Widdecombe served as Conservative MP for Maidstone for 23 years and later became a prominent figure in Reform UK. Tributes have poured in from across Britain’s political spectrum.
