France bans Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from entry

France has banned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from entry and urged wider EU sanctions over his treatment of activists detained during a Gaza flotilla incident.

France has banned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from entering its territory, citing his treatment of activists detained during a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced the decision, saying, “As of this day, Itamar Ben-Gvir is banned from accessing French territory.”

Barrot also urged the European Union to impose wider sanctions on the far-right minister, who recently posted a video appearing to taunt detained activists from the Global Sumud flotilla.

The activists have accused Israeli forces of mistreatment, including beatings and use of force, allegations Israel denies.

The move adds to growing European pressure on Ben-Gvir, who has previously been sanctioned by several countries including the UK and Canada.

EU consensus on sanctions remains uncertain, with some member states opposing coordinated action against Israeli officials. France said the ban reflects concern over what it called “unacceptable actions” toward European citizens.
