President Pezeshkian touted a meeting with the missing Supreme Leader to project stability amid intense international speculation regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s health and authority.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced Thursday he held a private, two-hour meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, marking the first reported contact since the 56-year-old’s March appointment. Khamenei has remained out of the public eye following rumors of severe facial and leg injuries sustained in the airstrikes that killed his predecessor.
“What struck me most during this meeting was the vision and the humble and sincere approach of the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution,” Pezeshkian said via state media. While Tehran insists Khamenei is recovering and governing via audio conference, critics and international intelligence question his actual physical state. Speculation has been fueled by the leader’s reliance on written statements and an AI-generated profile image, with some, including former President Trump, suggesting the leader may be incapacitated or dead.
