UK radio station Radio Caroline has issued an apology to King Charles III after a computer error triggered a pre-prepared death announcement for the monarch while he was very much alive and on an official visit to Northern Ireland.
A UK radio station has apologised to King Charles III after accidentally broadcasting an erroneous announcement of his death, caused by a computer error at its main studio.
“Due to a computer error at our main studio the Death of a Monarch procedure, which all UK stations hold in readiness while hoping not to require, was accidentally activated on Tuesday afternoon, mistakenly announcing that HM the King had passed away,” Radio Caroline station manager Peter Moore said.
“We apologise to HM the King and to our listeners for any distress caused,” Moore added.
At the time of the erroneous broadcast, King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Belfast, Northern Ireland, attending a cultural celebration at Thompson Dock and meeting with local officials at Hillsborough Castle.
Radio Caroline, established in 1964, broadcasts across multiple countries and is available online worldwide.
