The U.S. Justice Department has quietly removed multiple news releases from its website documenting prosecutions linked to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, sparking fresh controversy over how the attack is being remembered.
According to the AP News, the deleted pages included case updates, convictions, and sentencing details tied to hundreds of defendants involved in the attack on the U.S. Capitol. The department reportedly described the archived material as “partisan propaganda,” a framing critics say is politically charged.
The move is the latest in a broader shift under President Donald Trump’s administration, which has also included mass pardons and efforts to reframe the events of January 6.
Opponents argue the removals risk rewriting public history of the riot, while supporters say it reflects an effort to reset what they call biased narratives around the prosecutions.
