The Nigerian police have arrested a trained chef in Abuja for allegedly sedating his employers and their security personnel to steal ₦150 million worth of luxury wristwatches and cash.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a chef, John Cosmos Govi, for allegedly drugging residents and stealing luxury items valued at ₦150 million from an Abuja apartment. Operatives from the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended Govi along the Gwagwalada axis while he was attempting to flee to Lagos.
Preliminary findings indicate that Govi, who trained in Benin Republic, conspired with two accomplices who remain at large. The suspect allegedly mapped out the home’s security routines before lacing the household’s meals with sedatives to incapacitate both the occupants and security guards during the April 23 operation.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Okon Placid, “After the substance took effect, the suspect facilitated the entry of his accomplices into the residence, where the gang vandalised the CCTV monitoring system, ransacked the apartment, and carted away cash alongside twenty luxury wristwatches valued at approximately One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (₦150,000,000).”
