China launches 5,000 AI Training Opportunities for Developing Nations

Chinese President Xi Jinping has unveiled 5,000 AI training opportunities for developing countries over five years, alongside new cooperation centres and a global AI body launched in Shanghai.

China Pledges 5,000 AI Training Slots for Developing Nations

Xi made the announcement Friday at the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, according to Tribune Online.

He revealed plans for AI cooperation centres with ASEAN, the African Union, the Arab League, CELAC, the SCO and BRICS, aimed at bridging the digital divide. Xi confirmed the launch of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO), calling it a milestone for inclusive global AI governance.

He outlined four guiding principles: open innovation, safety, inclusiveness and multilateral oversight under the UN. Xi also pledged to give 30 countries access to China’s MAZU meteorological warning system to strengthen disaster preparedness.
