DOJ charges 15 over $90 million Minnesota fraud schemes

The Department of Justice has charged 15 individuals in Minnesota for executing massive fraud schemes that systematically pilfered over $90 million from Medicaid, autism services, and housing programs.

Federal officials announced on Thursday that 15 defendants have been charged in Minneapolis under the “Minnesota Health Care Fraud Takedown” initiative for allegedly stealing more than $90 million in taxpayer funds. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche condemned the suspects, stating, “Today, we are holding scammers accountable who ripped off the American taxpayer and harmed those deserving legitimate assistance from these programs.”

The Department of Justice confirmed the indictments target child care center owners and multiple Medicaid providers, including suspects involved in the largest Medicaid autism fraud scheme ever prosecuted by the department. Prosecutors allege the suspects systematically pilfered seven different government benefit programs to fund luxury lifestyles.

Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald warned that the enforcement actions are just expanding, telling fraudsters: “Eat, drink, and be merry today. Because your days of frolicking and freedom are numbered.”
