Iran’s president orders reopening of international internet access, state media reports

After nearly three months of digital isolation, Iran is preparing to reconnect with the global internet. According to The Times of Israel, citing Iranian state media, President Masoud Pezeshkian has ordered the reopening of international internet access following an 87-day blackout imposed during the conflict involving the United States and Israel.

The move could restore access to millions of Iranians who have been largely cut off from the wider web, with only a small number able to get online through costly VPN services. However, officials have yet to explain exactly how or when full connectivity will return.

Even before the blackout, Iran maintained tight controls over online activity, making this latest decision a significant shift in the country’s internet policy.
