French philosopher Edgar Morin dies at 104

French philosopher and sociologist Edgar Morin has died at the age of 104, his family confirmed, according to Punch Newspapers. Morin, widely regarded as one of France’s most influential modern intellectuals, was known for his work on human complexity, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary studies.

Born in Paris in 1921, he was also a World War II Resistance member and later became a leading academic voice on society, politics, and global challenges. Over his long career, Morin authored dozens of books and helped shape modern philosophical thought in Europe.

French President Emmanuel Macron described him as “humanism personified,” praising his lifelong curiosity and intellectual courage. Morin remained active in public discourse well into his later years.
